Iceland 41 Club Cruise - 2 slide show galleries

The 2022 41Club Cruise to Iceland and Faroes was well attended with 45 people attending from all over GB&I with the biggest contingent being Shirley Late Knights with a team of 12. We set sail from the stunning port of Liverpool with its “3 Graces” art deco buildings . The Fred Olson Borealis ship had 800 passengers and 600 staff on board so service was impeccable, food delicious and the formal nights glamorous. First stop was in Reykjavik where we met up with Iceland 41ers Sveinn, Magnus and Povl who kindly showed us around the Golden Circle in their mini bus. First stop was the massive Gullfoss waterfalls delivering the water run off from the nearby glaciers. Then a short hop to the volcanic mud flat with boiling water holes and the great Geysir shooting to the sky. Our final visit of the day was to the geothermal power station generating electricity for most of Reykjavik . Did you know Iceland used zero oil and gas ? The day ended with Sveinn providing a BBQ at his house in true 41C fellowship. The second day in Reykjavik some of us visited and swam in the Blue Lagoon volcanic thermal pools which rejuvenated our skin to make us 10 years younger. Others went on a boat trip to spot whales but in vain and others climbed the Glacier in freezing conditions.
We sailed on to our second stop at Akureyri where another 41er Elvar Örn Birgisson kindly led a tour for a few - truly the international 41 Club network working at its best. On Board with 45 of us on an all inclusive package you can imagine it was a fun filled , alcohol fuelled party ship most of the time, with short interludes to swim, read or get a massage. Some played deck shove shuttle game , some even went to the gym ! On the way sailing through the Arctic Circle GB&I president Jim, VCI Barry and other Arctic virgins had to be inducted with a ladle of ice cubes down our backs. What a laugh , cold but memorable. We also celebrated Christine Fanning’s 60th birthday and Helen Dufficy’s birthday on board with all the waiters singing happy birthday. Last stop in Iceland was Seyoisfjorour on the eastern coast. A small village set in a picturesque valley. Some of us hiked up the nearby hills to the top of some magnificent waterfalls while others had a leisurely coffee in the village with its rainbow street and church.
