Despite having to move the location to the other side
of Monkspath Hall Road, we were thrilled to be able to declare
Solihull Carnival a huge success!
We were still able to hold a procession, host Bob Wilson’s fun fair,
have lots of stalls and host a day full of fun packed entertainment.
Thanks to sponsorship and a high turn out from Solihull residents,
running Solihull Carnival enabled over £6,200 to be given to
charity.
On
the right is a photograph of the Carnival Committee handing over a
cheque to David Barr, Branch Director of the Solihull Samaritans,
one of the charities who benefited on the day.
David said “We are delighted to receive this generous donation from
monies raised at Solihull Carnival. It costs over £20,000 each year
just to maintain the centre and with no funding available, we rely
on the wonderful fundraising efforts of organisations such as
Shirley Round Table and Shirley Ladies Circle to be able to buy
additional purchases such as much needed chairs and blinds"
Chairman of Solihull Carnival 2008, Chris Head said “We were
thrilled to have been able to raise so much money. I’m pleased to
hand over the chair to Helen Halstead and am very hopeful that she
will be able to have as much success as I did, if not more!”
The 2009 Solihull Carnival
will definitely take place on Saturday
12th June 2010.
Solihull Council have reworked the whole area of Tudor Grange Park during the
spring and summer of 2008, and through into Spring of 2009. However,
all work is now complete and planning
work for Carnival 2010 to be held on Tudor Grange Park is once again
under way.
As well as a procession through the centre of
Solihull, lots of stalls, Bob Wilson’s fun fair and of course plenty
of entertainment, we will again hold the “Carnival’s Got Talent”
competition.
Enter a float in the procession, have a stall on the
ground, or enter the “Carnival’s Got Talent” competition, please
keep checking this website which will be kept up-to-date throughout
the year.
Charities being supported in 2010
The Charities to be supported this year are:
Marie Curie, who are a well known National Organisation
HAVING Fun - Hearing And Visually
Impaired Needs Group - This is a Solihull children's special needs
support group.
Entertainment
We are now looking to book some family entertainment,
and also will be holding the final of the “Carnival's got
Talent” competition in and around the Carnival ground on the day, and there are sure to be lots of traditional side stalls and of course the
ever popular Bob Wilson’s Funfair. Bob Wilson's Funfair go a long
way to supporting Carnival by providing a significant amount of
sponsorship in several ways, and without the Funfair, we do not have
enough resource to put on the event.
The Funfair will be available from the Thursday
before Carnival and will finish on the Saturday evening.
